Academic Achievement Tutoring

Boy with school booksTutoring Programs for Academic Achievement

Deficits in the underlying cognitive skills that are required to achieve academic success are the likely root of many academic problems. These abilities include, but are not limited to, cognitive skills such as processing speed, working memory, attention, listening comprehension, visual processing, executive functioning, logic and reasoning, and in the integration of these skills.

At Aurora, we use research based, neurocognitive interventions that strengthen underlying cognitive skills, and as a result, the student becomes a better learner. Our focus is to target the student's foundational learning system, not just the surface skills. By elevating these essential skills, the student becomes a more efficient learner, thus making learning easier.  Results are typically dramatic and noticeble at home and in school by the 3rd-4th week of a program.

Based on assessment results of strengths and weakness, Aurora develops a Strategic Plan for Rapid Success tailored to your child's specific needs using clinically proven interventions including Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, Language!, Orton Gillingham, Handwriting Without Tears, Math Makes Sense and Sound Reading Solutions.  We routinely add new programs so check back frequently.

A student will undergo a comprehensive assessment to determine which methods will be most effective for your child. Sharing current psycho-educational testing results and/or other professional evaluations that may have been previously conducted is also helpful in determining the student's learning style and program compatibility.

With the right program, a student can experience significant improvement in reading, spelling, comprehension, memory, attention, math, social skills, and other areas of academic and personal success.   At Aurora, we expect 1-3 years of gains after 12 weeks of Academic Achievement Tutoring when a student participates in 2-3 sessions weekly.
