Summer is here and Aurora has fantastic summer learning camps!  We know that children relish the break from school, but we also know how important it is to reinforce skills acquired during the school year. Summer Camp at Aurora Strategies will focus on brain boosting, language enrichment, and social skills development in a fun, active learning environment.

Campers participate in 3 hours of neurocognitive research-based learning programs each morning which result in an average of 2 years of gains in the areas of reading fluency, math fluency and mental processing speed!   It seems like work and it is a mental workout, but our campers will tell you, "It doesn't feel like school".

Camp hours:  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Camp activities include:

3 hours each day of intensive brain boosting activities. Programs available include (but are not limited to):

• Fast ForWord – computer-based training system that helps students of all ages and learning abilities rapidly improve language, reading, and learning skills
  
  
• Interactive Metronome (IM) – computer-based training program shown to improve attention, coordination, and timing.
  
  
• The Listening Program – designed to enhance listening skills and improve auditory perceptual skills
  
  
• Sound Reading Solutions – systematic speech-based approach to developing phonemic and phonological awareness skills in emerging and struggling readers
  
  
• Lindamood Bell Seeing Stars – develops the ability to visualize the identity, number, and sequence of letters in order to understand the sounds within words. The program extends to multi-syllabic and contextual reading and spelling.
  
• Lindamood Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing - The Nancibell^® Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking^® (V/V^®) successfully stimulates concept imagery. Individuals become able to image gestalts which include color, and even movement. This improves their language comprehension, reasoning for critical thinking, and expressive language skills.
  
• Lindamood Bell On Cloud Nine Math – stimulates the ability to image and verbalize the concepts underlying math processes.
  
  
• Handwriting Without Tears - a multi-sensory, developmental approach to teaching the fundamentals of handwriting.
  
  
• Social and conversational skills

• Arts and Crafts
  
  
• Talent show;  singing, creative writing, pariting, and general sharing of talents during Camp Aurora Idol beginning July 7th, 2008
  
  
• Active outdoor time:  Camp Moovin' and Groovin in June, 2008
  
  
• Science experiments:  Camp Wierd Science beginning July 21, 2008
